YETI Rambler 30 oz
My brother bought me an odd present one year. At least I thought so at the time. A stainless tumbler style cup. I was grateful as anyone should be when receiving a gift, but I will admit I didn't see the appeal at first. I don't know if this is the most wrong I have ever been about a first impression, but it certainly has to be up there. The YETI Rambler is one of the few products where I know that I won't wear it out, but I'm always happy to receive as a gift. My first thought is always, "Great! Now I have one for my wife's van!" or "I needed one for work!" It's a one trick pony (Ok 2. It keeps cold stuff cold and hot stuff hot), but it does as advertised as well as any product on the market.
Pros:
It keeps stuff cold. Really cold. For a long time. Do you want a product that keeps cold stuff cold? If you answered yes, buy it. I have had ice last 24h + in this thing in the fall. I had ice last 16 hours in the 90's. I've had it keep coffee drinkable temperature in the Wisconsin winters for more than 8 hours (for reference it is supposed to be -20 tonight). The construction is great. I think you could run these over with a car and do more damage to the tire.
Cons:
My one real gripe with the YETI is that it is hard to get a coffee flavor out of a YETI once it is "embedded." Even with multiple cleanings, it just seems like water doesn't taste the same. My solution? A coffee YETI and a water YETI. For my other complaint, I have to add context. I am a coffee snob. I drink black coffee like it's water. For 99% of the population this will not apply. Disclaimer over. Here it goes. I find that black coffee has a "licking pennies" type aftertaste when you drink more acidic coffees. Is it all in my head? Maybe. One other note, not really a con, be careful with hot drinks in one of these things. If you put coffee in straight out of the pot, it may be just as hot as when you poured it.
Final Thoughts:
If you have any job where you can't sit down and drink your entire beverage at once, you should have one of these. If you need a gift idea... well first get them a Fishers of Men UPF shirt. Then get them a YETI.
